Antique: Nogas Island

Travel Date: August 6, 2014

We reached Nogas Island from Manila by taking Cebu Pacific via Iloilo. Then from Iloilo we took a cab and headed to Oton Terminal where Ceres buses plight to San Jose via Anini-y. There are two routes to reach San Jose. One, is passing through the sea side and the other one is passing through the mountain. You don't want to pass through the latter as it would skip Anini-y so better take extra step to confirm this from the driver.

Travel time is 1.5 hour to 2 hours

Good thing the road is paved, so travel experience was smooth and easy. I surely enjoyed the view of the sea!!

One of the drop offs is at Sira-an Hot Springs. Check out their Facebook here => Sira-an Hot Spring. This place is popular in the area so you can ask any locals. Arrange a boat to Nogas for P500 good for 10 persons. You can also ask the locals for fishermen who could bring you to Nogas for a cheaper rate.

 Travel time: 20 minutes.

There are cottages for rent and environmental fee during peak season. Since it was August, there was no one in the island. It felt great this island belonged to us for a while!!

mangroves are abundant
some parts of the sand are as powdery white as the sand in Boracay

There is no electricity nor water in this island. This place is busiest during summer especially May, their fiesta month. On their fiesta day, a mass is celebrated here. People set up picnics anywhere and stay overnight.

I took a chance to visit Anini-y Church located in Brgy Poblacion, the town proper.

San Juan De Nepomuceno Parish Church located in Barangay Poblacion, Anini-y, Antique. "Built during the Spanishera in the 19th century, made of coral reefs carved into thick blocks to form an adobe and were glued using thousand of egg whites/yolks"
