Puerto Princesa City: Day 2 - Underground River Tour
At first, we would really like to DIY the Underground River Tour because it would only cost almost half the price compared to the package tour which is P1500 per person. Hubby and I were glad that we availed the package inclusive of van and boat transportation, 2 tour guides, permits and entrance fees and buffet lunch.
We were more glad to see a coaster picked us up at 8AM. Usually it would just be vans. We were 17 in total, 14 guests, 2 tourguides and a driver. Our tourguide told us that Underground River Tour is fully booked that it's really best to avail a package and book it in advance.
Quick stop at Taratitat
It was only 10:30 AM when we reached Sabang.
Sabang Terminal |
Our lunch consists of chicken soup, cucumber, vegetable (adobong kangkong), grilled fish, chicken adobo and grilled pork.
After meal, we were given an option to try Mangrove Paddle Tour for only P150/pax. This is an educational 1 hour tour with mangrove planting. A long trek to Underground River is another option and this will take 2-2 1/2 hours. Our tour guide didn't recommend this.
Hubby and I decided to just wander in Sabang. Our call time is 2PM.
Sabang beach has strong undercurrent. It's difficult to swim here as the waves are continuously coming.
Daily El Nido trips.
Vendors are growing. As expected, prices are high.

We registered our names and took a short trek.
We checked out the famous monitor lizards. A local said these lizards come to the same spot every day for food.

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is located about 50 kilometres (30 mi) north of the city centre of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. The river also called Puerto Princesa Underground River. The national park is located in the Saint Paul Mountain Range on the northern coast of the island. It is bordered by St. Paul Bay to the north and the Babuyan River to the east. The City Government of Puerto Princesa has managed the National Park since 1992. It is also known as St. Paul's Subterranean River National Park, or St. Paul Underground River. The entrance to the Subterranean River is a short hike from the town of Sabang.- Wikipedia |
I felt really excited as we came near the cave. I noticed the temperature dropped as we passed and, of course, the smell, since it's inhabited by bats. Don't try to open your mouth or you'll get a taste of bat crap. lol!
It was I think 30-45 minute ride tour inside the cave. After we reached the what they call, Edsa Highway, we returned. Sadly, we weren't able to get a good shot inside the cave using our point and shoot camera.
This famous cave was all a picture to me before and now, I am actually in it. I felt really proud for it being one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.
