IloIlo : Getting around Barangay Asluman

Welcome to Barangay Asluman, Carles Iloilo!!! :P

During our entire trip in Gigantes, we stayed in Gigantes Hideaway Resort or Gigantes Hideaway Tourist Resort. Prior to coming, we reserved a room good for 3. Accommodation is only P200/person/night!! Very cheap right?!!! And you can stay in wherever rooms available for the same price!

Tents can be set up here. The house in the middle was once a family house. Now its available for guests.

our abode for one night. On our first night, we stayed in one of the rooms in the main house since this kubo house was occupied by other guests. Main house only has a common restroom unlike kubo houses, they have their own.

sorry for the clutter. 2 double beds. 2 electric fans.
restroom with scallop shell art. water is mineral!
You can bring your own food and ask the staff of the resort to cook the food. But if you don't want to worry about your food, the staff can buy you food then cook it as well.

There is a sari-sari store but of course the price is a bit higher since they purchase groceries from the mainland. So once in Estancia, you purchase all that you need for your stay in Gigantes.

Electricity in the island is only available from 6AM to 11PM. From 11PM onwards, electricity in the resort is supplied by a generator. So better charge all batteries in the morning!!

Water in the resort is mineral. Take note, just in the resort. Imagine, we take shower with a mineral water! Awesome! :)

Joel would like all guests to have a relaxing stay in their resort. All guests have to do is wake up, tour, eat, relax.. No need to worry about anything, just relax. And this is exactly what we did. :)

We had a sumptuous meal on our first night!

steamed scallops
steamed crabs
grilled scallops
sizzling scallops.
pork adobo

Then we took the liberty in checking out the community.

Barangay Asluman, located in Gigantes Norte Island, is one of the barangays in Carles, a 2nd class municipality in the province of Iloilo.

There are no roads nor streets in the island, only a cemented walkway. Motorbikes are their only means of transportation and usually the fare is P10 each.

cute little park
beside the park is the Bgy Health Center. No hospital in this island.
Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College Mobile School
Salon Gigantes for Men and Women :) Beside is a Christmas tree with shell decorations
Catholic Chapel
Asluman Elementary School
A mountain of scallop shells. Scallop shells are found everywhere.
Aside from fishing, their other source of income is from harvesting scallops. It is a risk but some people still continue to do it because of no other choice. Our tour guide once said people die young in the island due to the effect of being under water for long period of time in a pressurized oxygen. He said he once tried it and it's difficult. He chose to veer away from harvesting scallops and opted to become a staff at Hideaway Resort, where he was also trained as a tour guide. I only hope that their tourism boosts so people will have other opportunities.
