Ilocos Trip Day 3: Pagudpud Southbound Tour

Day 3:

We started our day early to maximize our time. While drinking coffee, some vendors approached us selling jewelries made of shells and pearls for a cheap price. After eating breakfast, we went for a swim in Saud Beach, where Ate Cathy's homestay is also located. I can say that Blue Lagoon's sand is finer compared to Saud Beach, nevertheless both water is clear. We were thrilled to feed some fish with bread. It was my first time to experience it :)

At 11am, we left Saud beach and went back to our room. We ate lunch, packed our stuff and at 12noon, Kuya Lenzer picked us up for our SouthBound tour. Southbound tour is heading towards Loaog and there are only 3 places to visit for the Southbound tour but each spot is 30 minutes far from each other.

Saud Beach

First stop, Bangui Mills.

"The Bangui Windmills are located in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. The windmills, officially referred to as the NorthWind Bangui Bay Project, were a project by the NorthWind Development Corporation as a practice renewable energy sources and to help reduce the greenhouse gases that cause global warming. The project is the first "Wind Farm" in the Philippines consisting of wind turbines on-shore facing the South China Sea and considered to be the biggest in Southeast Asia. The project sells electricity to the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) and provides 40% of the power requirements of Ilocos Norte via Transco Laoag."-WikiPilipinas
Second stop, Kapurpuran Rock Formation. Kapurpuran means white. To reach the white rock, we had to hike down a cemented trail that leads to a wide open field.

Last stop, Cape Bojeador Lighthouse also known as Burgos Lighthouse, known for being the highest lighthouse in the Philippines.

"The Cape Bojeador lighthouse was part of the Spanish government's master plan of illuminating the Philippine archipelago. The project commenced with the execution of the lighthouses in the northern and western part of the Philippines and those around Iloilo and Cebu. The Burgos lighthouse was first lit on March 30, 1892."-Wikipedia.

At 3 PM, we were done with the Southbound Tour. Kuya Lenzer dropped us off the highway near the foot of Cape Bojeador. Since we already travelled half of the distance between Laoag and Pagudpud, it only took us an hour to go back to Laoag. We bought some Pasalubong in Laoag market then went to Robinson's. From Robinson's, we took a tricycle to go to the Airport. We waited for our flight to get us back to Manila... back to reality.

Don't forget to put on TONS of sunblock for the Southbound tour. We really wished we had atleast 4 days for the whole ilocandia trip. We haven't visited Laoag yet and haven't fully enjoyed the beach in Pagudpud, both in Saud and Blue Lagoon, but that's okay because these are enough reasons why we need to go back.
